Update: Sorry to those who tried to tune in and didn’t hear anything. The mixer I used suddenly stopped working after the first song. Next time, I will bring a more reliable mixer with me.

Due to internet connection issue at Regis University, The Sports Broadcast for today has been cancelled. The broadcast team is attempting to record the game for download, however this may prove difficult tonight. Please bear with the issues as we work them out of the system in the next few weeks.

In the last few days a number of updates have been completed on the MIR Server. The only notable problem as of now is the “Now Playing” box may end up blank for a day or in the near future while the studio switches from iTunes on Windows to Rhythmbox on Linux. The most notable change for users is the listen box in the top left. There are now two streams through which we’ll broadcast. The “Studio One” is for live shows from the studio here at the Colorado School of Mines. The “Sports” stream is for the sports games that we broadcast. This will prevent the issue we had last semester where the DJ would get booted for the sports game. When either is inactive, the automatic DJ will be broadcasting music from our automated playlists. If you have these links saved in iTunes or Windows Media Player, please update them as they have changed. Thank you for bearing with these changes.

Mike Ashwood made a “gadget” for the Windows Vista Toolbar to display the current playing song and has links to the streams. It’s a great little feature to add to Vista if you really enjoy our station. Here’s the file: MIR Gadget 1.2

Oredigger and Mustang fans,
I would like to personally apologize for the silent stream and subsequent cancellation of the homecoming football broadcast today October 13, 2007. An equipment failure of our codec system resulted in no audio being sent back to the station to broadcast on the internet audio stream. The play-by-play was continued until the end of the first half when it was determined the station did not have equipment necessary to diagnose and fix the problem during the game.
The Mines Internet Radio team is currently working on fixing and correcting the current system for near future upcoming broadcasts. The station and sports broadcasting department are arranging to install a new system in the next couple weeks to bring you a more reliable, quality broadcast.
Sports on Mines Internet Radio is committed to excellence and producing a quality broadcast bringing to students, parents, alumni, and the community the excitement of CSM Oredigger athletics. I personally and sincerely apologize and take full responsibility for today’s broadcast not reaching the standard and expectations we have here at Mines Internet Radio.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to e-mail me at rbalchuc@mines.edu, and I look forward to bringing you future CSM athletic action on Mines Internet Radio
Sincerely,
Ryan J. Balchuck
Sports Broadcasting Director
